Research shows that elementary aged children benefit from playing outside. There are six major benefits to children when they go outside to play. The benefits include: building up their immune system, providing exercise, stimulating the imagination, promoting problem solving skills, providing Vitamin D, and promoting healthy social skills.

Elementary students at Knox have a variety of play areas. The play areas are assigned on a weekly basis and include: basketball, foursquare, handball, jump rope, tether ball, soccer, caroms, hopscotch, and a four lane track for races.
